Car thief roams in stolen jacket, caught

Two Emiratis, who allegedly committed a number of car thefts, were arrested when one of them wore the jacket he had stolen from a car, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.
 
Following a number of car thefts reported in Al Rashidiya area, police intensified patrolling in the area until they suspected two who used to walk in the area after midnight.
 
“On December 21, at around 4am, we noticed the duo walking in the area. On the following day, a theft from a car was reported. Similarly, other thefts were reported following the days that we spotted the two men,” testified Sergeant Sayed Rostom.
 
The complainant told police that Dh2,500 worth Samsung laptop, a jacket and Dh110 in cash were stolen from his car after thieves broke the door glass.
 
Police arrested OA, 23, jobless, and MA, 19, soldier.
 
When arrested the soldier was wearing the jacket and in his pocket he had gloves and the jobless man had a screwdriver and a knife with him.
 
The soldier admitted that the jacket he was wearing was stolen from a Camry.
 
He claimed that he threw away the laptop in the garbage bin.
 
The unemployed man told police that his role was to stand guard while the soldier broke opened the car windows.
 
He claimed that the soldier gave him Dh50, which he spent on personal needs.
 
The car’s owner recognised his jacket.
 
The court will reconvene on April 19.
