Posing as CID officers, an electrician, along with three accomplices, forced two workers to a sandy place where they physically assaulted and robbed them.

On January 25 at around 9pm, MS and MA, both Bangladeshi workers aged 24, were riding a cycle and heading towards their accommodation when two men posing as CID officers stopped them.

“Two other men joined the ‘CID’ staff and forcibly pulled us off the road to about 50 metres in the sand. The four men beat us and robbed our wallets and mobiles,” MS told investigators.

At this time, a truck stopped nearby and two Syrians asked the accused why they were beating the men. They answered that they are CID officers. However, when the Syrians asked the attackers to show their ID cards, they ran away in different directions.

MS ran behind one of the two men who were beating him up. “While I was running behind one of my assaulters, he threw away the wallet and continued running towards a restaurant in the area. I started shouting: ‘thief… thief”. People in the restaurant came out and caught the attacker. We called the police who arrived and arrested one of the attackers.”

The attackers had stolen Dh10 from his friend and compatriot MA. Police arrested AM, 21, Indian, and accused him of kidnapping, assaulting and stealing Dh500 from a pedestrian and Dh10 from another and a mobile phone.AM is also accused of impersonating a CID officer.

The Court will reconvene on May 15.
