A Nepali cleaner allegedly entered a women’s washroom in the Dragon Mall and took a picture on his mobile phone of a woman in the adjacent toilet cabin, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

On November 13, a Saudi tourist couple arrived at the mall at around 8.30am but it was not open and the security guard told that the mall opens at 10am.

The couple decided to wait outside the mall but as the wife needed to go to the washroom, the security guard opened the door and allowed them to enter.

“We entered the mall and all the shops were closed. I searched for the washroom which we finally found. My wife entered the washroom but came out looking scared after about ten minutes. She told me that she saw a hand holding a mobile phone from the top of the toilet cabin that she was in,” the 37-year-old husband MA told investigators.

“I got into the toilet and started knocking at the door of the locked cabin while my wife went to bring the security guards. After several knocks at the door, the person inside said “Wait, wait” and flushed the toilet for several times.

“He finally opened the door and got out. His eyes were red and he looked scared. The security guards came and I searched him and found a white mobile phone and a piece of steel. Searching the mobile, we did not find any video recording but only a picture of the washroom from inside.”

The couple reported the incident to the police who arrested the 27-year-old DB.

The Court will reconvene on January 15.
