Abu Dhabi police arrested two contractors after catching them red-handed trying to bribe an officer so he will cancel a Dh7.5 million fine for a delay in completing a police building, a newspaper reported on Monday.

The company’s manager and his assistant had contacted the police officer and offered him Dh600,000 bribe after they were asked to pay a fine for the delay in handing over the project to the police, Emarat Al Youm said.

They told the officer that he can either annual that fine or have it slashed from 20 to 10 per cent of the project value in exchange for that sum.

“The officer pretended to have agreed and told his seniors…when the two handed him a cheque for the sum in his car, police men emerged out of their hiding and arrested them,” the paper said, quoting police.
