The UAE Federal Supreme Court has rejected the appeal of a man sentenced earlier by a lower court to six months in prison for molesting a 13-year old girl, according to a report in the Arabic daily newspaper Emarat Alyoum.

The Supreme Court also rejected the claim that he is mentally unstable and therefore unable to understand the consequences of his actions.

The public prosecutor had referred the man for trial for indecent assault on a child.

The accused had appealed the decision of a lower court which convicted and sentenced him to six months in jail.

The accused claimed lack of sufficient evidence to convict him.

Rejecting the appeal of the accused, the Federal Supreme Court explained that the Appeals Court had taken the facts, conditions and circumstances of the case before passing its judgement.

Oral investigations were made in the court in the presence of the accused who claimed that he did not have intercourse with the victim but admitted that he had kissed and flirted with her.

The accused’s defence submitted medical reports to support its claim that he is suffering from mental disability but the Federal Supreme Court rejected this claim.
