A burglary at one of the leading supermarket chains in Sharjah has left retailers wary.

In the early hours of Saturday morning, thieves looted Dh96,000 in cash from Al Madina supermarket, located behind Mubarak Centre.

They also siphoned off pre-paid cards worth Dh7,000.

CCTV footages show two middle-aged men hovering around the shop prior to the outlet closing on Friday night.

The duo smashed open the side door at the rear of the outlet and made their way to the steel locker.

They used iron crowbars to open the safe and are seen counting coins, as well.

Interestingly they made no attempt to evade the CCTV camera and left behind important documents and passports, as well.

Staff who opened the store at about 7am on Saturday morning were the first to notice the burglary and informed the police.

Sharjah Police are investigating the case. They have collected finger prints from the site, said a source familiar with the incident.

Cops have urged shopkeepers to have their CCTVs connected to Sharjah Police Operations Room, to prevent such crimes.

Officials have also called upon retailers from leaving huge sums of cash in shops.

The outlet is owned by an Indian expatriate hailing from Kerala.
