Dh11,000 and 80 lashes for drink drive

A court in Fujeirah fined a Pakistani man Dh11,000 and ordered him lashed 80 times for driving his car under the influence of alcohol and damaging public property.

The unnamed man had earlier been ordered by a court of first instance to pay Dh22,000 and lashed 80 times, prompting him to appeal.

The Arabic language daily Alkhaleej said the appeals court on Tuesday slashed the fine but kept the flogging sentence.
