Sharjah Police has arrested a citizen of a Gulf state on charges of robbing an acquaintance of his car and Dh50,000 at gunpoint.

Police in Kalba received a complaint from an Arab national that he had been robbed by a person he had hired to help him search for his stolen car.

The complainant told police that he knew the accused only by his first name.

Sharjah Police, with help from their counterparts in Ajman and Al Ain, identified the suspect as a Gulf national, traced and arrested him. The complainant’s money and the firearm were found in the stolen car.

Security checks of the arrested man showed that he had a criminal record and was wanted in other countries for previous crimes.

Police said the accused had confessed to robbing the car and money at gunpoint from the victim. He admitted that, on the day of the crime, he and the victim had travelled together in the latter’s car late at night to search for his stolen car.

Sharjah Police has warned the public not to get involved with strangers or share personal information with them, to reduce chances of fraud or theft.
