People who covet a fish dish had better go and buy it instead of deploying their hooks in Dubai’s water as they risk paying Dh500 fine.

Dubai’s municipality has just decided to get tough with unauthorized fishing and deploy its inspectors to keep an eye on those who have a habit of waking up early morning or go after at sunset to catch fish.

An earlier decision to temporarily suspend unauthorized fishing in a bid to preserve the emirate’s marine wealth appears to have faltered after authorities noticed that it is massively violated.

“Those who are caught fishing will be fined between Dh100 and Dh500,” Khaled bin Sulaitin, head of the emergency office at the municipality.

“We will grant fishing permits but on a very small scale because we do not want our fish wealth to be endangered by those who are involved in random fishing and catch almost every marine creature be it small or large.”

He told the Arabic language daily Albayan that Municipality inspectors would be deployed round the clock to ensure strict implementation of the rule.

He urged the public to report any violation by call the Municipality emergency centre on 800900.
