Divorce averted between loving couple

An Emirati man and his wife averted divorce in the last moment following a rift of nearly five years triggered by the woman’s insistance on moving away from his mother’s house. He immediately agreed to her demand when he learned that his mother’s husband was molesting his wife.

The couple in Ras Al Khaimah decided to seek help from the family guidance centre at the emirate’s courts complex as their last resort following the wife’s insistence that they either move to a separate house or she takes her children and lives with her family.

The centre’s director Jassim al Makki said he was surprised by the couple’s long-standing dispute on the grounds they appeared to be in love of each other and the wife “has great respect for her husband and fully performs her duties towards her home and children.”

He said the husband told him he was surprised by his wife’s demand to move away although his mother’s house is big enough.

“The husband said he could not agree to her demand because he wants to be near his ageing mother to help her,” Makki said.

“After a long dialogue with the couple, the wife revealed to the centre why she insists on moving away…it was because of persistent molestations by the husband of her husband’s mother…she said she did not want to tell her husband about this to avoid trouble.”

Quoted by Albayan newspaper, Makki said the husband, upon learning the truth, agreed to rent a new house for his wife and children. “He understood her fears and concerns and decided to preserve his family.”
