An Asian anesthetist is believed to have fled the UAE after causing the death of a pregnant Yemeni woman during a Cesarean operation at a private hospital in Abu Dhabi. Although they failed to revive her, doctors managed to save her baby’s life.

A report by the Abu Dhabi forensic department about the incident blamed the Indian doctor, identified as Aparna Krishna, for the death of Salma, according to the Dubai-based Arabic language daily Emirat Alyoum.

It quoted her father, Mohammed Al Jalal, as saying his daughter came from Yemen around two months before delivery and that doctors decided that she must have a Cesarean operation for a safe deliver.

During the operation, doctors noticed there was an oxygen shortage in the woman’s body and tried to alert the Indian anesthetist but she did not act accordingly.

“The woman died but doctors managed to save the baby’s life…the Indian doctor fled the country five hours after Salma’s death, claiming that her father was ill,” the paper said, adding that the doctor was not sponsored by the hospital at that time.
