Dubai traffic police patrols seized a car travelling at more than 260 kmph in the emirate last week and discovered it was equipped with an additional petrol tanks that could have caused a road disaster in case of an accident.

Police patrols chased the car after its driver refused to stop before he was cornered in a road and seized by the surrounding cops.

Police checking the car found that it was equipped with an extra petrol tank in the rear and that it was connected by wires to the engine.

The unnamed motorist was also driving recklessly and the speed was so high that his air bag burst open as he tried to stop the vehicle during the police chase.

“He was driving at more than 260kmph and he told our men that he normally does not drive this way on public roads,” Dubai Traffic Police Chief Major General Mohammed Saif Al Zafin said, quoted by the Arabic language daily Al Bayan.

“We found that his car had a second petrol tank connected to the engine through the rear side of his vehicle.

“This tank and other additions found in the car mean that it can travel as fast as more than 300kmph.

“This is very dangerous as any accident could lead to the explosion of the vehicle and cause a disaster on the road,” Zafin added without mentioning where in Dubai the driver was caught.
