An Emirati, who worked as a driver for a VIP, used a car of his employer to transport narcotic drug tablets.

He also kept about 40,000 Tramadol and Benzhexol tablets at his residence in the grounds.

MK, 45, claimed that a relative who is a Pakistani national serving a sentence in jail in Ras Al Khaimah, was the one who guided him from jail in promotion of these tablets for sale.

In October, police received a tip off about the accused possessing drugs for sale.

Police learn't that MK had put a sack containing tablets near a garbage bin at Rashid Hospital bus stop.

An anti-narcotics officer headed to the location at 11.30am and after noticing the sack, he stayed there to observe who would come and pick it up.

At that time, the officer learned that the suspect drives a green Camry, which is registered in the name of the VIP.

“At 3am, the green Camry passed by where the sack was put. As nobody came to pick it up till 5am, I picked it and took it to the department,” testified the officer.

The driver, who was living in the servants’ quarter, was put under observation.

However, an officer who was observing him at his residence, was informed by his seniors that the suspect is using a white Nissan X-Terra and that he had gone to a barber at International City.

“Police then raided the house of driver MK, 45, and searching the car, a large quantity of Tramadol tablets were confiscated,” said Officer Hassan Ibrahim.

The accused claimed that he received a call from his Pakistani relative jailed in Ras Al Khaimah. The relative asked him to pick up drugs from near the court in Sharjah.

“I took it from there and kept it at my residence. Then I received another call from my relative who asked me to put part of it at the bus stop near Rashid Hospital. I was planning to hand over the rest to someone at Dragon Mart,” the accused admitted.

Police confiscated a total of 39,740 Tramadol and Benzhexol tablets.

Urine test of the accused proved positive to drugs.

The court will reconvene on February 18.
