The Dubai Traffic Court awarded a driver one year in jail and fined him Dh20,000 for causing the death of a passenger while driving under the influence of alcohol.

The court also ordered the Asian driver to pay the blood money of Dh200,000 to relatives of the deceased and  ordered suspension of his driving licence for one year.

In July, the 59-year-old man, while he was driving his car under the influence of alcohol, lost control over his car and crashed into another car.

The driver of the other car and a passenger with him sustained serious injuries. The passenger died later.

The two cars were badly damaged.

The Dubai Prosecution investigated the accident and the driver admitted to consuming alcohol.

The test reported presence of  94mg/dl of alcohol in the driver’s blood.

The Prosecution referred the case to the court.

The driver confessed to the allegations when he appeared before the court.

Meanwhile, the Traffic Prosecution investigated with 35 motorists of different nationalities for their involvement in fatal traffic accidents from the beginning of this year.

The Prosecution closed the files of 32 other motorist as they were killed in accidents they caused, said Salah Al Falasi, head of Traffic Prosecution.

The Prosecution orders detaining drivers involved in fatal accidents. Such detainees are not released unless the investigations are over, technical reports submitted, case referred to the court and a verdict has been given, he said.
