The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance sentenced a driver and a petrol station attendant to three months in jail on the charge of bribery.

AJZ, 42, Pakistani is also accused of stealing Dh2,000 from his employer which he kept for filling the company’s car with diesel.

The petrol station attendant, RBB, 32, Nepali, was also ordered to pay a fine of Dh1,000 for issuing false receipts.

RBB admitted to issuing false electronic receipts for the accused about 10 times, each time against a bribe of Dh10 to Dh20.

AJZ also admitted to stealing about Dh2,000 by falsely claiming to have filled petrol in the company’s truck.

AM, 26, Pakistani, assistant worker, testified that his colleague, the accused, used to approach the petrol station near the company’s premises at between 1am to 3am and used to ask the attendant to fill the truck with Dh100 worth of petrol and get receipts for Dh200.

“The accused then used to approach the company’s accountant and collect money as per the receipts. He used to do that about 15 times every month over the past five months,” he testified.

The company’s financial manager, OJ, 40, Jordanian, testified that the company got a tip-off about the accused swindling the company for three years by submitting false receipts against paying a bribe of Dh20 to the petrol station attendant.

“Counting the approximate theft by deducting half the value of the receipts submitted by the accused, we found out that he had stolen around Dh165,000. So we lodged a complaint with the police,” he testified.
