Drug mule's 10-year jail term upheld

A Pakistani salesman, who tried to smuggle heroin in Dubai has had his 10-year jail sentence upheld by the Appeals Court.

The convict, JA, 25, must also pay a fine of Dh200,000.

According to the records, JA returned from his country to the UAE on September 9, 2014 through Dubai Airport.

Customs officers became suspicious of him and he was subjected to body search.

"The body scanner showed that he was carrying capsules in his body. He was then handed over to the Anti-Narcotics Department," testified Sergeant Saif Al Shamsi.

The accused released 74 capsules, containing 559.80 grammes of heroin, when he was detained at Rashid Hospital.

The accused admitted his crime and said he was to hand over the consignment to a person in the UAE against Pak Rs50,000.
