Dubai police have released a book for children entitled “How To Say No” to teach them to guard against sexual harassment which they said have become widespread with the advent of internet and other communications means.

Police are also warning parents against “over-trusting” drivers, domestic workers and strangers by leaving their children in their custody on the grounds such acts have given rise to molestation crime in the emirate.

School girls for the summer activities were handed the new book on Sunday by Colonel Ahmed Humaid Al Marri, director of the criminal investigation division at the general department for detectives and criminal investigation in Dubai.

In a brief lecture to the students at the New World School, Marri cautioned them against harassment and molestation and reassured them that Dubai’s police and security organs are doing their best to curb such crimes.

He said the spread of social networks and other advanced telecommunication tools have given rise to sexual harassment and molestation attempts against children and teen agers, adding that those involved in such acts “hide behind the veil of a fake personality to lure their victims.”

“We call on all fathers and mothers not to over-trust strangers, domestic workers and drivers and not to neglect their children by leaving them in the custody of those people…they should not give them the chance to exploit their children.”

The Dubai-based Arabic language daily Albayan said Marri distributed the Dubai police booklet on “how to say no” to the school girls.

“The new book has been prepared by security awareness experts at the community service division at Dubai’s police…it includes various forms and pictures of luring attempts by child and teen ager molesters in public places, at home, inside schools and other places…the book teaches them how to use the word no to avert falling prey to those criminals.”
