Dubai salesgirl escapes molester by hiding in car

A Pakistani driver allegedly tried to molest a salesgirl while he was transporting her from work to her house, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

On November 15, at around 7pm, the victim, LR, Filipina, rode the bus together with seven other co-workers to go home after finishing their work at Dubai Mall. The driver, QK, 27, dropped all the workers except her.

“I asked him why he did not drop me and he replied ‘I want you’ and asked me to accompany him to his room. I refused and asked him to drop me at home. He did not listen to me and stopped the bus below a building in Al Hamriya.

“He held my neck and forcibly tried to kiss me. Then he pulled out my T-shirt and groped my back and asked me to go up with him while I was resisting him. I managed to release myself from his grip and got off the bus running. I saw a woman sitting in her car, so I opened the door and got into the car hiding myself under the seat,” LR testified.

The woman in the car, RA, Filipina, asked LR what the problem was while a man roaming around seemed to be searching for someone.

“She was in a state of shock, crying and scared and I could hear her saying that she was molested by a bus driver. The man who was roaming around did not come close to us and I could not see him clearly as it was dark. We left the place and I dropped her at home,” testified RA.

The victim reached home and called her sister to tell her what had happened. “I came to her flat and she was in a very bad condition. She was scared and crying.  She told me what the driver did to her, so I took her and lodged a complaint with the police,” testified the victim’s sister.

The victim told police that the driver often used to flatter her, seeking a relationship with her.

I did not report that to the police as he used to say the same thing to my co-workers and I did not want to cause problems for him or my employer,” said the victim.

Police arrested the driver who denied molesting LR and said he had only pushed LR out of the bus. A woman who saw him pushing LR took her and dropped her home, the accused claimed.

The victim and the witnesses denied the driver’s claim under oath.

The Court will issue its verdict on February 13.
