A 57-year-old Emirati suffering from heart problems died at a hotel in Sharjah after a breathing fit. The ambulance arrived after 40 minutes.

Ibrahim Ali Hassan left his room on the 10th floor and ran down to the lobby shouting for help, prompting the hotel employees to call the hospital.

The ambulance arrived nearly 40 minutes later and its medical staff took nearly 15 minutes to supply the patient with oxygen.

“It was too late. The man died for lack of oxygen. The ambulance staff were late in giving him oxygen,” the hotel’s manager told Emarat Al Youm daily.

The paper quoted the manager, who declined to be named, as saying Hassan had arrived in the hotel for a week-long stay for the Eid holidays and that he had just been discharged from hospital, where he was admitted for heart problems.

“He wanted to stay one week, but he died two days after he checked in. The man had difficulty breathing and the ambulance arrived 40 minutes after we called it.”

The paper said police had opened an investigation into the case. It did not name the hotel but said it is located on Alorouba St.
