Emirati killed after car drives into palm tree

An Emirati man was killed and his friend seriously injured after he lost control of his car and rammed into a palm date tree on Emirates Road, the Arabic language daily Emirat Alyoum reported on Thursday.

The unnamed driver of the Jeep Wrangler was on Dubai-Al Ain road before he suddenly changed course and crossed over to Emirates Road towards Sharjah on Tuesday morning, the paper said.

“He lost control of the car which entered a sandy area and rammed into a palm date tree…the accident resulted in the death of the driver while his companion suffered from serious injuries,” the paper said quoting Lt Colonel Saif Al Mazroui, acting director general of the Dubai traffic department.
