Employer rapes housemaid in absence of wife, forces her to accept Dh200

An employer allegedly raped his housemaid after ordering her to iron his dress in his room taking advantage of the fact that his wife was in the hospital, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

WA, 30, Indonesian joined work in her employer’s house six months before the incident. Her employer used to grope her from time to time.

“Sometimes he got into the store room behind me and closes its door and assaults me. He used to hug me from behind and grope my breasts. He used to leave the store room only when I threatened to shout for help.

“On November 26, at around 10.30pm, I got a phone call from my employer who asked me to come to his room to give him a massage. I refused and told him that I don’t know massaging. At 11pm, he knocked on my room’s door and asked me to come out but left when I refused.

“At around 2.30am, I woke up together with co-workers to prepare breakfast for his wife who was in the hospital. While I was in the kitchen, he asked me to come to his room to iron his ‘kandoora’. I asked him to bring the dress to me in my room but he insisted that I should iron it in his room,” the victim testified.

“I left the kitchen, entered the hall asked him to bring the ‘kandoora’. He told me that I should iron it in his room and locked the house’s door and put the key in his pocket. When I asked him why he had locked the door, he asked me to enter his room which was next to the hall. I rushed towards the door and tried to to open it. But he pushed me into a chair, held my arm and twisted it towards my back and pushed me into his room. When he was closing his room’s door, I tried to rush into the bathroom in it. But he pulled me back and threw me on the floor.

“When I got up, he asked me to go to the bed. I refused and begged him not to do anything to me. He did not listen to my pleas although I argued with him whether he would like this to happen to his wife. I told him that I am a married woman and that what he is doing is forbidden.  But he pulled my both hands towards my back and raped me. He threatened to kill me if I screamed,” WA told the police.

After he finished, the accused let the maid go after forcing her to accept Dh200 from him.

“I went back to the kitchen where my two co-workers asked me why I was crying. They insisted on knowing the reason. I told them what happened and at 10am I left the house to complain. But he saw me and asked me to get into his car and threatened to beat me up if I did not.”

The accused dropped his victim back at the house after threatening her not to tell anyone about what had happened.

“I called the labour supply company and informed them about the incident. The company advised me to call the police if I cannot run away and so I did,” the victim testified.

Police came and took the housemaid and forensic tests found the DNA of the accused on her body and clothes. Her two co-workers repeated similar testimonies, saying that WA was with them in the kitchen but disappeared suddenly for about half an hour after which she returned crying.

Police arrested RA, 29 on the charge of forcible sex.

The Court will reconvene on February 16.
