European manager held for Dh8m dud cheques

A European company manager is on trial in Abu Dhabi for issuing dud cheques worth nearly Dh8 million, newspapers reported on Tuesday.

The defendant told the court that he issued the cheques in the name of suppliers of goods for the company, but that they were found to be without balance after there was a delay in payments to the company by debtors.

He said the company’s owner decided to shut it down because of lack of cash inflow from debtors.

Newspapers said the judge postponed a sentence against the defendant to November 3.
