Ex-fiance’s killer to be executed

An appeals court in the eastern oasis town of Al Ain upheld a previous court ruling and sentenced an Arab man to death after he was convicted of murdering his former fiancé, a newspaper reported on Wednesday.

The court handed down its sentence after the victim’s family refused to pardon the killer under Islamic law and insisted on his death, Alkhaleej said.

The 26-year-old defendant had denied he was involved in the murder of 21-year-old Eman but her relatives swore in court that he was behind her death.

Eman was reported missing in January 2011 and police investigation showed her ex-fiancee killed her by strangling her with her scarf and burying her in the desert.
