An Afghan visitor who, attracted by her fair skin, pinched and groped a secretary in an office tower lift in Dubai, was sentenced to one year in prison.

BH, 27, was also ordered to be deported after serving his jail term.

HS, 23, Jordanian secretary, took the lift to go down from the 21st floor of the Fairmont office tower after finishing her work in a legal consultancy office at around 5pm on Thursday July 12 last year.

“The lift went up instead of down. It stopped at the 23rd floor where a man got in. He asked me where I worked and I answered him. Then he asked me about my nationality and I told him I am Jordanian.

“He seemed surprised by my fair skin. I was wearing a short sleeve shirt. He pinched my arm saying, ‘You are very fair.’ Two or three seconds later, he shocked me by groping my breast.

“I pushed him back and shouted at him. At this moment the lift reached the ground floor and when the door opened, he got out quickly. I could not stop him and there were no guards near the lift.

“On Sunday, I told my employer what happened. After viewing the camera footage, the culprit was identified,” testified the victim.

The accused admitted to his crime when confronted with the camera footage and said he was attending a training session in the same building.

The prosecution supplied the Court with a CD that had the recording of the camera in the lift.
