A man from another Gulf country posing as a detective abducted an Arab girl to a remote desert area in Abu Dhabi and tried to rape her with the help of a friend, but they abandoned their attempt after the girl put up touch resistance.

The two were later arrested and sent to court, which sentenced the first defendant to 10 in years in prison and his accomplice to four years for rape attempt and taking drugs.

An appeals court on Sunday reduced the sentence against the first defendant to five years in jail and upheld the verdict against the other defendant.

The unnamed girl told court that she was walking near her house when the Gulf man asked her to come with him for a police case.

She said the two forced her into their car and drove to a remote desert area, where they tried to rape her. After giving up their attempt,  they dumped her on the road, where she was later given a lift by a driver who happened to passing in that area.
