Fed-up 'illegal' reports blackmailing cop

A man who overstayed in the UAE and was involved in illegal activities including prostitution and alcohol trade, did not mind being arrested when he decided to inform authorities about a policeman who blackmailed him for more than two years.

The policeman was found to have accepted bribes from  three others (fugitives) who were also involved in prostitution and alcohol trade, a Dubai court heard.

AI, 32, Bangladeshi reported to the police that he had left his job as a maintenance worker and started roaming around at Al Rifa area.

“One day a policeman who was wearing the uniform approached me and we started chatting after exchanging our mobile phone numbers. After some time, I started supplying a prostitution den run by an Indian with clients interested in sex. I used to stand close to the building where the den was located... one day a customer approached me and we started talking... all of a sudden the policeman came to me and slapped me in the face before grabbing my shirt. He pretended that he will take me to the police station ... I was shocked when he told me that I should pay him Dh500 weekly so that he will not arrest me. I accepted to pay him the bribe and I did that for two weeks. In the third week he asked me to guide him to the den. After having sex with one of the prostitutes, he asked me to pay Dh50, to the den’s manager.

AI, left this type of work and so his communication with the policeman became very little.

However, the policeman directed his blackmailing to the den’s manager who resumed paying him the Dh500 weekly bribe for not arresting him.

“I learnt from the den’s manager that he had paid him Dh6,000,” AI told investigators.

AI then moved to alcohol trade and chose Al Riga as his area of business. He again fell in the hands of his old friend - the policeman saw him selling alcohol and asked him for Dh500 weekly as a bribe not to arrest him.

“I have already paid him Dh6,000. I am not earning this amount to pay it to him... As I could not pay him anymore, I decided to report him to the police,” AI said.

AI went to the police station and reported about JD, 34, Iranian First Policeman.

Police asked AI to help arrest the cop red handed and handed him over Dh500, the weekly bribe.

The policeman was arrested red handed after taking the note that was of the police marked ones.

First Policeman, JD, was referred to the court on accusations of accepting Dh500 weekly over about two years from four violators of residency rules.

JD is also accused of accepting 1,800 bottles of wines from AI, 31, Bangladeshi in bribes given to him on different occasions.

The cop is also accused of asking Ai to pay Dh50 and him having sex with a prostitute.

He is also accused of asking and accepting Dh500 weekly bribes from other three illegals.

The police also referred, the informer, AI, to the court on accusations of assisting in running a den, offering the policeman bribes in forms of cash totaling Dh7,000, wine totaling 1,800 bottles of wine  and offering sex and paying Dh50 for it against avoiding his arrest.

The court will reconvene on September 21.
