An Emirati woman has filed a fresh law suit against her ex-husband in Abu Dhabi  to demand Dh1.5 million damages for systematic beating. But her husband denied her claims, saying he had been acquitted from 17 cases filed by her.

When the judge asked her husband whether he had given his ex-wife a cheque for Dh1.5 million, he admitted that he had offered her a blank cheque to pacify her following an argument while they were married. He told court that his ex-wife had written that figure on the cheque following their divorce.

Asked by the judge why she is demanding that sum, the woman said her ex-husband gave her a blank cheque so she would not report him to the police after beating her and that she deserves damages for his maltreatment of her.

“The woman also said the sum would also partially compensate her for the house, in which they had lived together for nearly 15 years,” Albayan daily said.

“Her ex-husband relied that his ex-wife was telling lies and that he had been acquitted of all 17 cases she had filed against him…he also said that he had divorced her three times and restored him before this final divorce.”

The paper said the court adjourned hearings to July 27.
