A co-worker of EA, 37, Bangladeshi, who is accused of premeditatedly killing his roommate, told the court that a fight over job broke out before the knife attack.

On February 27, at around 8pm, MH, 46, Bangladeshi, returned to the old-style house at Port Saeed area which he shared with co-workers.

"When I entered the house, EA and the victim were in heated argument. I intervened and asked both to stop and since the victim was my roommate, I asked him to get out of the house until the latter calms down. The victim did not leave the house but stayed in our room. I changed my clothes and left for the kitchen to prepare food. The accused then came to the kitchen and complained about the victim. He claimed that the victim had offered him a job but had dismissed him  after a couple of days.

“The victim came out of the room and started defending himself and the two resumed their arguments. While I was having food, a boy came to me and told me that EA had attacked the victim and ran away. I rushed out and saw the victim on the ground bleeding. I asked him who did it but he could not answer,” MH told the jury.

Driver MA, 40, Pakistani who lived in the same house, told the jury that at around 10pm while he was chatting with friends in his room, he heard his Bangladeshi housemates fighting outside.

“I used to hear them fighting all the time, so I did not pay attention.  Later, my friend and I decided to go out for a walk. I opened my room's door and saw the victim was walking towards the wash basin and the accused was following him. The two were fighting with their hands. Then I saw the accused hitting the victim and run away... I did not see if there was a knife in his hand. However, the victim ran after him for about three steps before he fell. I rushed closer and saw a knife near the victim’s body,” the driver told the jury.

Answering the judge’s question, the driver said the accused was stronger the victim.

According to the records, the driver ran after the accused until he got tired. He then returned to the accommodation and police was already there.

On the following day, the accused was arrested in coordination with Sharjah Police.

Promotion job

The accused claimed that he had been beaten by the victim and another man on the day of the incident.

“The victim had offered me a job of distributing promotional stickers of a massage centre against Dh2,500 monthly salary. I took the job and moved to stay with him in the same house. After about 25 days he handed me Dh1,500 and told me that I was dismissed.

“On the day of the incident at around 7pm he asked me to accompany him to a building, saying that he will offer me a job. When we reached the building, he and another man assaulted me and I ran away from them and headed to the house.

“When he returned home, I asked him why he had dismissed me from the first job and thus the fight started. He was standing near the dish washing basin when I came to him and asked him why he had sacked me. He turned back to me and held my neck, so I stabbed him with a knife that I was holding,” the accused admitted.

Forensic reported that AR, Bangladeshi, died because of a deep stab that reached an internal cavity and caused a cut in the heart muscle and the liver. The fatal stab also caused internal and external bleeding.

The defence lawyer asked for hearing testimonies of a denial witness. The court will reconvene on July 7.
