Foreign drug dealers must be deported: top court

Foreigners caught dealing or taking drugs must be deported from the UAE in line with the federal penal code which includes jail term and deportation for narcotic cases, according to the Federal Supreme Court (FSC).

FSC overturned a sentence by an appeals court suspending the deportation of two defendants arrested for possessing and taking tramadol.

The two had been sentenced by a court of first instance for one year in prison and ordered their deportation. It also fined one defendant Dh20,000.

An appeals court later suspended the jail term for three years and cancelled the deportation order, prompting the prosecutor to appeal with the FSC, which upheld the first sentence and ordered the deportation of the two.
