Forged rupee notes gets man 2 years in jail
ASS, a 23-year-old Indian employee, was convicted of possessing forged currency of about 2.5 million Indian rupees and was sentenced to two years in jail followed by deportation by the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance.
According to the records, police received a tip off about the accused possessing forged rupees and intending to exchange it for UAE dirhams.
“After checking the information we found it that it was authentic. A police informer was assigned to act as a buyer and set up a meeting with the accused to reach a deal in Al Muteena area,” testified Lieutenant Ahmad Suhail.
Policemen arrested ASS after the money was handed over and confiscated Rs2,463,000. ASS claimed that 15 minutes before handing over, someone called Sojo gave him the fake notes and asked him to hand them to the buyer.
“I did that against Dh2,000 if the deal was done,” he admitted.
Criminal Evidences reported that the 2,460 notes of Rs1,000 denomination were all forged so well that it would be difficult for most people to detect.
