Dubai police seized four Asian men, including one illegal entrant, for committing 76 thefts involving car batteries and cables at buildings under construction, according to a senior police officer.

The four confessed to having burgled cars, construction sites and houses evacuated by their tenants in various parts of the emirate.

Police intensified their search for the four after receiving repeated reports on such thefts, which indicated they were perpetrated by the same gang.

Besides batteries and cables, the four also targeted metal wires at new buildings, DVDs and cassette players in cars and other items.

“Our investigators found that the four were experts in breaking the car glass to rob the battery and other items,” said Brigadier Khalil Al Mansoori, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department in Dubai.

“They carried out their operations at night and targeted cars parked by their owners in isolated areas,” he told Emirat Alyoum newspaper.
