Gang helping illegal employment of maids arrested

The Department of Research, Investigation and Follow-up of Offenders in Dubai’s General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs has arrested four Asian men for involvement in the illegal employment of 18 housemaids, two of them African and the rest Asian, according to Major General Mohammed Al Marri.

Major General Al Marri said a total of 5,552 illegal residents were caught in the year 2012, of which 4,337 were men and 1,215 women.
He said 106 raids, five of them in co-operation with Dubai Municipality, were conducted in 31 areas of the emirate in the first five months of this year. 

Khalaf  Al Ghaith, Assistant Director General, said during a raid in Al Barsha area, it was found that the passport of an illegal housemaid was tampered with. Further investigation led them to an apartment where a group of people helping illegal employment of housemaids lived.

According to a member of the group, he was working as a gardener and he was helping maids to flee their sponsors and work else for better salaries.
