Gang of cable thieves get 3 years in jail

Five jobless Bangladeshis were sentenced to three years in jail each for forming a gang and stealing electric cables worth over Dh164,000 from villas under construction.

The accused, identified as JRA, 32, AKJ, 30, MAM, 27, ARM, 27, and IAM, 25 stole on August 15 and earlier cables worth about Dh164,000 from  villas under construction.

The accused were arrested by a police patrol while trying to steal cables from Emirati HIA’s villa under construction.

The accused took advantage of the fact that the construction site was not guarded, climbed the fence and cut the cables before stealing them.
