Sharjah Police has arrested a 10-member gang of car thieves who used to take the stolen cars outside the UAE for sale there.

Five of the people held were Pakistanis and the remaining five Saudi citizens.

The gang used forged ownership certificates and Saudi car number plates to smuggle the vehicle across UAE’s land borders.

The gang concentrated in the industrial areas of Sharjah and some car showrooms. They were also on the lookout for owners with mortgaged cars who were trying to sell their cars at low prices ranging from Dh6,000 to Dh10,000.  After taking these vehicles across to other countries, they were sold at prices between Dh35,000 to Dh40,000.

Two of the Pakistanis were arrested in Ajman. One of the Saudis arrested admitted that he was aware the cars were mortgaged.
