An Afghan passenger allegedly carried 73 capsules stuffed with more than half a kilo of heroin, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

On October 15 at around 9.30am, RK, 27, carpenter, returned to the UAE from his country through Dubai International Airport.

RK did not have any luggage with him. However, an inspection officer suspected him and referred him to the officer in charge of checking for banned items.

The passenger was subjected to checking by an X-ray device and abnormal things were detected in his digestive organ.

When confronted, the passenger admitted to carrying heroin in his body and asked to be allowed to release them as he was exhausted.

The passenger released 73 capsules wrapped in scotch tape containing 584.43 grammes of heroin.

The court will reconvene on December 29.
