Henna treatment sends bride-to-be to hospital

An Emirati girl preparing to get married was sent to hospital instead of her husband after suffering from severe allergy because of henna application on the eve of her wedding, a newspaper reported on Thursday.

The bride’s family invited two female workers from a beauty saloon in Diba, Fujeirah on the eve of her wedding and asked them to apply henna and other traditional cosmetics to prepare her for the event.

Soon after henna was applied on her hands and feet, the 18-year-old girl suffered from a severe allergy case and had to be rushed to hospital, which reported the incident to the police.

“The girl and her family accused the henna workers of causing the allergy by using harmful substances in the henna application,” the Dubai-based Arabic language daily Emirat Alyoum said.

“Medical tests showed the henna application did not include any harmful substances but police are still investigating the case and are awaiting the final forensic report.”
