Abu Dhabi Police have arrested an Asian gang which had carried out robberies and thefts in the emirate’s industrial zones at night.

Colonel Dr Rashid Mohammed Bourscheid, Director of Criminal Investigation at Abu Dhabi Police, said the five-member gang  specialised in robbery and theft of industrial goods at night in Mafraq and Musaffah in Abu Dhabi.

Revealing their modus operandi, he said the gang would first surprise guards, swiftly overpower them and lock them up in a room. After that, they would disable the surveillance cameras by cutting the wires and then proceed to steal cash, metals, fuel and other goods.

They had stolen goods worth about Dh1.8 million, the police officer said.

The police had received several reports about robberies in the industrial zones over the past two months, he said.

The gang carried out thefts and robberies wearing masks, gloves and had spare cable surveillance cameras to hide their crimes and mislead the police.

Members of the gang, Pakistani nationals aged between 25 and 30, confessed to the police about their involvement in theft of industrial goods.

They told police that they would knock at the door and when the guard comes out they would attack him while one of them would cut electrical wires to the surveillance cameras.

Victims confirmed that the gang tied their hands and feet and locked them up in a room at gunpoint and also took their personal belongings.

They said the gang was using two vehicles, one a saloon  car and the other a transport vehicle, depending on the type of theft they had planned. The car was used when they planned to steal money while the truck was used in the theft of copper and metal drums containing diesel fuel.
