A Romanian and a Sudanese man posing as policemen robbed more than Dh1 million from an Indian businessman after tying him up inside his Dubai apartment before the two and a Moldovan woman were arrested by police. The two men, stalking the Indian dealer for days, went after him just as he opened the door of his flat in Rafaa area and showed him fake police cards, saying they want to search his apartment for suspected laundered money.

Once he let them in, they jumped on him and tied him up before searching the apartment and stealing nearly one million rupees plus jewellery worth nearly Dh1.3 million. Two hours later, he managed to untie himself and phoned the police, who deployed in the area and began an investigation.

One witness told police he was parking his car near the building when a black Hyundai blocked his way. He said a lady with European features then came to him and apologized before moving the car.

After contacting many car rent companies, police identified one firm which owns that car. The company told them three persons had rented that car having the same descriptions shown by the police.

“Knowing the date when they will return the car, police waited near the rent office….just moments before it closed, they came with the car…our men then rushed and arrested the three,” Emirat Alyoum daily said, quoting Colonel Salim Al Rumaithi, deputy director of the detectives department.

He said nearly half the loot was found with the Romanian man, who confessed that it was his share. The rest was seized with the Sudanese at his flat in Nahda area.

“The Moldovan woman confessed that she knows the victim’s wife and learned that she would go back home with the family and leave her husband on his own…she told police that she learned of the Indian man’s good financial situation through his wife,” he said.
