A bank customer who was crossing the road after withdrawing Dh400,000 from a bank in the Sharjah Industrial area was robbed of the money after someone hit him from the back.

Police have previously alerted bank customers to be careful while withdrawing or depositing cash as robbers are constantly monitoring the area to attack vulnerable customers.

Suraj, an accountant of an interior decoration company based in the Sharjah Airport Free Zone was attacked on Wednesday afternoon, when he was walking back to his car after withdrawing the money.

He had moved about 100 meters after withdrawing the cash when someone hit him from behind, snatched the envelope with the money and ran away.

The Indian accountant tried to chase the attacker but said that a car drove right next to the assailant, who then got inside it and disappeared.

Even though he tried to force open the car door, the car which reported came from the service road, sped away.

The bank has been approached by the Sharjah police to get the CCTV footage of the incident.

Sharjah Police is now examining the CCTV footage of the attack as the car in which the robber escaped after committing the crime has apparently been caught on the CCTV cameras in the area.

The accountant also managed to jot down the registration number of a white car, and according to him, there were three other people sitting in the car.
