Indian jailed 1 year, to be deported for theft, kidnapping

An Indian engineer and two other compatriot who posed as CID staff, stole a car and kidnapped its driver, was awarded one year in jail followed by deportation by the Dubai Court of First Instance.

According to the records, RAR, 27, engineer, OAB, 28, worker, KSA, 35, salesman, stopped Srino Babo while he was driving his car Mitsubishi Lancer, at around 2am on December 2, 2010.

Babo, 33, accompanied by his Sri Lankan friend, was driving in Al Satwa to drop his friend to his home, noticed a Mitsubishi Pajero gesturing him to stop.

Babo stopped his car and four people came upto them posing as CID officials.

He testified, "They asked for our ID cards. As my friend showed them his, they looked at it and asked him to leave the place. They told me that my car is wanted and asked me for my wallet. One of them searched it and took Dh500 and my labour card. They searched me and took my mobile phone. Then they told me that we should go to the police station to continue procedures. Four people sat in my car with one of them in the front seat. The one sitting next to me asked me to stop as he wanted to driver. I suspected them and asked them for their police cards but instead of showing me the identity cards they slapped me at my face. One of them said we are going to Bur Dubai Police station."

“When we reached Al Karama, they dropped me and asked me to approach the police station and specifically the officer on duty called Mohammed. I told them how can I go home as they have taken my mone. The one sitting in the back seat gave me Dh100 and asked me to take a taxi and they left the place. I went immediately to the police station to report the incident. I could not lodge a complaint as I do not have the car’s papers and the police also asked about the witness. I reported the incident next day.”

His 30-year-old Sri Lankan friend Bimel repeated the same testimony and said that after leaving my friend with the men one of them beaten him and pushed him into his car and then they left. “After about an hour my friend came to my house and told him that he was robbed by the men who claimed to be CID staff. I went with him to the police station to lodge a complaint.”

Policeman Khaled Shehab, testified that RAR was arrested by Sharjah police on April 13, 2011 for a car theft case. Searching his house police confiscated documents of the Mitsubishi Lancer subject of this car. The accused confessed  to stealing the car from Al Satwa area with the help of others and lead to their locations.

The victim and his friend recorgnised the attackers so were referred to the Prosecution, testified Lieutenant Nasser Mohammed.
