Job-seeker claims rape in Discovery Gardens

A Nigerian driver allegedly raped a Cameroonian job seeker, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

CH, 24, visitor, was looking for a job after her arrival in the UAE.

"One day when I got down from a public transport bus, I noticed a man got down behind me. He approached me and asked if I am looking for a job.

“I answered affirmatively. He promised to help me and so we exchanged mobile numbers," said the victim.

The two continued communicating over the mobile before SE, 38, driver, asked the woman to meet him.

"I met him near a hotel in the Al Baraha area. He told me that his brother will find me a job in the same company where he works and told me that his brother wants to meet me and asked me to prepare my CV," said the victim.

On September 6, the driver called the woman and told her that he will take her to meet his brother and asked her to meet him at Al Ittihad Metro Station.

"We met at the station and took the Metro. I do not know where the location of his brother's work was. We got off at a station and then took a bus.

“After sometime, we got down and walked to a building. We took the lift to the third floor where he knocked at a door.

“Someone opened the door, I was shocked to see that it was a residential flat.

“SE told me that it is his brother's residence and I have to give him my CV.

“Since I was desperate for  a job, I got into the flat and sat on a sofa," said the victim.

The man in the flat was cooking and asked us to join him for lunch.

"I took some food before I gave him my CV and he said he will go upstairs to hand it over to his employer.

“After he got out, SE locked the door and then switched on the TV before he sat next to me and started molesting me. I pushed him away. He asked me for sex, but I refused and begged him not to rape me.

“While I was on my knee begging him, he carried me and threw me onto the bed and forcible stripped me after he gagged my mouth with a pillow.

“He then threatened to kill me if I continued resisting," said the victim, who submitted to him.
 
His brother knocked at the door and saw the woman sitting on the sofa weeping.  

"I told him what SE did to me. He looked shocked. SE pushed me out of the door," said the victim.

The woman, who took a taxi, found out that she is in Discovery Gardens. She went to Jebel Ali Police station and reported the crime.

The following day, police arrested SE who admitted to having sex with the woman.

The accused claimed that it was consensual sex.

She asked me for Dh500, but I offered her Dh200 and she agreed.

He claimed that the woman got angry and asked for more money.

"I told her that if she got pregnant, I will marry her since I am unmarried. She was very angry" he claimed.

The court will reconvene on March 6.
