A Bangladeshi housemaid threatened to get her boyfriend, also from Bangladesh, beaten up if he did not return the Dh3,000 he had borrowed from her.

Panicking, the boyfriend, identified by Dubai Police as NKN, strangled the 30-year old woman to death with a scarf.

NKN, who worked in the Naif area, might well have gotten away with his crime, as he had hidden the body in an abandoned building in Dubai.

In fact, for five months he did.

However, to his bad luck, a Dubai Municipality inspector was examining a number of abandoned houses slated for demolition and he noticed a large piece of plywood covering what looked like a grave.

The inspector lifted the plywood and found a skeleton of a woman.

The inspector contacted Dubai Police and in just seven hours, Dubai Police arrested NKN, who subsequently confessed to the crime.

The victim, S, who used to work as a maid in Karama but was listed as absconding since January was killed by NKN in the Al Mankhool area of Dubai.

A photograph on the victim’s body led the arrest of the killer.

The police distributed the image of the person on the photograph to a number of confidential sources belonging to the Dubai Police and were able to confirm the identity of the victim.

Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Dubai Police’s Commander-in-Chief said that solving the crime in record time confirms the importance and efficacy of the Dubai Police and its network of sources.

Brigadier Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Director, Dubai Criminal Investigation Department, said that the arrest of the accused within 7 hours of the body being found affirms the high level of performance of the CID

Colonel Salem Al Rumaithi, Deputy Director of the department called on the public to report any suspicious packages located in abandoned places by calling the toll free number 800 243.
