An Emirati Bedouin (without identity), who killed his Iranian pregnant wife three years ago, has been pardoned by her family in return for diya (blood money) and a criminal court in Ras Al Khaimah is to issue a sentence on June 19.

The 33-year-old man confessed to police that he stabbed his wife,26, after a heated argument at their house in Maamoura neighborhood in the northern city. She was rushed to Saqr Hospital but died later.

At his lawyer’s request, the judge agreed to give time to the defendant to reach a settlement with his dead wife’s family to get a pardon under Islamic law.

“The father of the dead wife has agreed to drop his case against the defendant ….the judge set June 19 for issuing a sentence,” Emarat Al Youm daily said.

Under Islamic law, a killer is executed in most cases unless pardoned by the victim’s relatives in return for blood money.

Asian killer of two sentenced to death

The UAE’s top court sentenced an Asian man to death after he was convicted of murdering two colleagues in their bed room, dismissing defence pleas that he was pardoned by the victims’ relatives.

The Federal Supreme Court upheld previous court death verdicts against the defendant after he was found guilty of premeditated murder.

The court rejected his lawyer’s argument that the defendant has been pardoned by the relatives of the two murdered Asian men on the grounds none of them was present at court and all efforts to reach them have failed.

The court upheld the prosecutor’s plea to execute the defendant after obtaining approval from the President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, according to Emarat Al Youm daily, which did not identify the killer and the victims or say where he killed them.
