A 25-year-old Bangladeshi maid, RAA, confined her co-worker, stole her savings and ran away, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

Their employer AAY, 37, Emirati doctor, testified that on September 18, 2012, he received a call from a neighbour telling him that the maid had absconded leaving behind the other maid locked with his infant in a room.

“I rushed home and had to break the room’s door to release the maid. Checking her belonging, she found out that more than Dh3,000 of her savings was missing. So I reported the theft and the fleeing of the maid to the police,” he testified.

The victim TMO, 28, Filipina, testified that while she was cleaning her employer’s bedroom at around 10am, RAA locked the door from outside. “I looked through the window and saw her stepping out of the villa. When I called her, she said ‘good bye’ and closed the villa’s gate. I shouted for help. A neighbour heard me and heard about the incident from me. The neighbor phoned my employer who came and released me. I checked my belonging and found out that more than Dh3,000 was missing from my bag that I kept in the room which I shared with RAA,” she testified.

The accused admitted to confining TMO and the baby in her employer’s room and running away.

The court adjourned the case for verdict until April 25.
