A 26-year-old Bangladeshi maid allegedly stole her employer’s SIM card and made international telephone calls for Dh7,430, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

“The SIM card that my brother OA was using was lost in August and since it was registered in the name of my second brother who was out of the country, he could not stop the SIM nor issue a replacement one,” Corporal JA told investigators.

The telephone bill for August showed calls to Bangladesh for Dh3,008 and September’s bill was Dh7,430 including that of August.

“We suspected our Bangladeshi maid who denied knowing anything about the SIM card. We checked the numbers that appeared on the bills with that which the maid used to dial from the land line and they matched,” he said.

The other two Ethiopian maids told their employer that they had seen RM using a mobile phone and that she claimed that their employer’s son gave to her the SIM.

They admitted to making international calls via RM’s mobile on her request without knowing that the SIM card had been stolen by her.

Searching her belongings, the employer found a mobile phone which contained his brother’s SIM card. When she kept silent when questioned, she was reported to the police.

The Court will reconvene on December 4.
