An Indian employee groped a housewife in the lift of her building and ran away when she sought help from the watchman, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

At 7am on December 19 last year, ZT, 26, returned to her building and as she entered the lift a man got behind her. She was surprised to see him holding his private parts.

“I got scared of him and tried to get out of the lift. He held my hands and tried to pull me back. I resisted him but he held my breasts firmly. I pulled myself away from him but he groped my private parts. But finally I released myself from his grip, rushed out of the lift and knocked on the door of the watchman’s room. The watchman went in search of the accused but could not find him,” testified the victim.

The screams and shouts of the victim drew the attention of the area’s people who saw the man, caught him and kept him until police arrived.

The police officer who arrested HK, 26, reported that the later was scared and claimed that he had touched the woman’s breast accidently while he was trying to push her out of his way. However, he could not justify why he tried to get out of the lift nor did he say why he was in the building and its lift since he was not a resident. The watchman, MD, 50, Indian, repeated the same testimony.

The Court will reconvene on March 17.
