A Dubai criminal court sentenced a man to two years after he was convicted of using his job to steal two dead persons just before their bodies were handed over to their relatives, a newspaper said on Saturday.

The court sentenced the man, a public servant, to one year for stealing a Kuwaiti dead man and another year for robbing a second corpse, taking advantage of his job as the man in charge of a deposit box at a local hospital.

Police said the man confessed to stealing more than Dh4,000, an expensive watch, a purse and a silver chain from the Kuwaiti corpse before it was handed over to relatives at the dead man’s embassy. He also confessed to taking over Dh15,000 and $200 from the other body.

The court also ordered him to return all the stolen money and items and to a fine equal to the stolen loot, according to Alittihad newspaper.
