A Palestinian allegedly used the seal of the Department of Naturalisation and Residency Dubai (DNRD) and forged the signature of one of its employees to retrieve Dh1,000 deposit he had paid for sponsoring a relative on a visit visa, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

RYA, 31, cashier at Dubai Commercial Bank, is also accused of forging the document and stealing theDh1,000 from the residency department.

Corporal Sultan Hamza testified that he works in the Department’s Hyatt regency branch and he first met the accused who works at DCB in the same branch two years ago.

“In September he submitted a visa application for sponsoring his relative on a visit visa and asked for waiving off the deposit amount. I told him that I am not authorised to do that but I could reduce the Dh2,000 to Dh1,000. He paid the amount and the visa was issued. In October, he told me that he did a mistake. He said that he used the seal in my position on the deposit receipt and got back the Dh1,000. On the same day I received a call from my seniors telling me about the incident and they sent me a copy of the transaction. I found out that the accused had also forged my signature, so the department logged a complaint against him,” he testified.

The accused confessed that he forged the signature of Corporal Sultan and used the seal on the deposit receipt and got back the amount.

The court adjourned the case to March 5.
