Monkeys worth Dh53,000 stolen from farm
An Emirati student allegedly stole six monkeys worth about Dh53,000 from the farm of a compatriot at Al Khawaneej, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.
On February 25, 2013, the owner of the farm OS, 34, received a phone call from a farmer telling him that the six monkeys that were kept in a cage on the farm had gone missing.
“The farmer told me that the lock of the cage was broken and the six monkey of two different types and valued at about Dh53,000 were missing. After checking the farm, I informed the police who came and checked the scene and found out that one of the thieves had climbed the fence and opened the gate to others who entered and headed directly to the cage of the monkeys,” he told investigators.
Police checked footage of security cameras which showed that a group of people had entered the farm and stole the monkeys. However, police could identify one of the suspects with a DNA test on blood-stained tissue papers found on the farm.
Police arrested MS, who is above 18 years 0f age, but the accused denied the theft.
The court will reconvene on November 2.
