The Eritrean mother and her five-year-old daughter who went missing a week ago from Sharjah’s Al Majaz Park have been found, Sharjah Police said today.

According to the police, the girl Merha K. was lost on Sunday ( February 17) evening in Al Majaz Park in Sharjah.

Merha’s mother had taken her to the park and had left her in the children's playing area to go for a stroll. She went for a walk in the park, thinking that the child will play in the closed children's games area. But when she returned, she was shocked to see her daughter missing from the children's playing area.

After she informed the police, a search for the daughter was launched by Sharjah police.

The case became complicated when, a few days later, the mother also went missing.

The police continued its search until it found both of them together in another emirate.

When the mother was questioned by the police, the woman said she’s an illegal resident and feared getting caught by the police, so she decided to move to another emirate.

When asked where she had found her daughter, the mother told the police that her daughter was found with an Ethiopian woman who had taken the girl to her home in another emirate when she found her crying in the park and was searching for the mother.

The police has forwarded to case to the public prosecution for legal action.

Colonel Abdullah Hamid, head of community policing in Sharjah, has appealed to parents and guardians not to leave their children alone in public places, even if that place is only for children.
